Upcoming Concerts in 2026

January 15th, 18:00 / Võru Kannel

VIIS & SÕNAD. ELU POLÜFOONIA
Robert Jürjendal (guitar) & Doris Kareva (poetry)

If Doris Kareva’s words convey a touch of secret consciousness; shadow and light, smoky and iridescent light alternate in the eternal circle of the soul, then Robert Jürjendal’s music affects the soul like a balm of light, drawing its quiet power from the source of joy.
Just as water finds its way, so too will Robert Jürjendal’s music reach his birthplace, Võru, on January 15th – quietly, in the manner of water and light, together with Doris Kareva’s poetry.

“Aaviku Aedade Muusika” – the new album

“Aaviku Aedade Muusika” (“Music of Aaviku Gardens”) is the new album by Robert Jürjendal, Anti Jürjendal and Toomas Rull. The music is related to Robert Jürjendal’s country home – Aaviku Farmstead. The place considers in different plants, bushes, flowers and trees. There is also an Aaviku Music House, where most of Robert’s music/albums has been written.

“Music of Aaviku Gardens” is amostly ballad-oriented album, focussed in the beauty of nature, simple melodies and harmonies. It also has a strong family connection – father Robert and his son Anti. The third member, drummer Toomas Rull, Robert’s schoolmate and colleague, adds colours and an ambient feel to the whole atmosphere. The music of the album is peaceful, almost meditative.

Robert Jürjendal – Breedlove semiacoustic guitar, electronics
Anti Jürjendal – cello & editing

Storytelling by Kerttu Soans, artist and writer

Robert Jürjendal’s 60th anniversary concert is a great opportunity to experience his ensemble and orchestral music. Most of these works were composed between 2023 and 2025. As the founder of Weekend Guitar Trio, Robert Jürjendal’s creative journey has been inspired by discovering new musical ensembles. One of them is certainly the Estonian Sinfonietta, which in 2024 commissioned the author’s largest musical work to date, “Gamma” for semiacoustic guitar/electronics and chamber orchestra.

“The concept of “gamma” is widely used in many scientific fields. As a composer, I am most interested in the topic of color palette, which is used in the art world as a concept called an artist’s “color passport”.” – Robert Jürjendal

Tickets are available through Piletilevi.

“Northerly Winds” – new album by Strand … Rand

“Northerly Winds” (“Põhjast tõusvad iilid” / “Väre blest fråm norda”) is the new album by Strand … Rand, released in June 2025. This is the second album with the current line-up of Strand … Rand, which is made up of Sofia Joons, Meelika Hainsoo, Mall Ney and Robert Jürjendal.
In addition to Estonian and Swedish songs, the new album also contains songs in the coastal Swedish dialect. Several texts have been translated into both Estonian and Swedish, and Sofia and Meelika weave these songs together into a versatile and linguistic whole, while Robert and Mall help bring out the content and inner character with guitar and harmonium.

The winds have brought and the waters have carried
people and songs
from the shores of the Baltic Sea to the shores
throughout the ages.

They still do and will carry them today.
We sing songs that have come from Sweden to Estonia
and have taken root here.

Also those that were created by coastal Swedes
– initially on their home islands and villages in Estonia,
and after World War II in Sweden,
their hearts full of homesickness.

If there were a genre called “documentary song”, Strand … Rand’s music would belong to this genre. The songs chosen for the album bear traces of the singers of these songs and their life paths – where they went, where life took them, who they met and what they felt. It doesn’t matter whether the song is by a specific author, a folk song or a pop song of its time, it is clear that these songs have been important to the performers and have helped them live. Songs can release feelings, make you laugh or help you make choices in difficult times. Songs help you to be human and remain human. They can also create delicate bonds between people, countries, times and languages. In songs – and by singing – we come together.

Sofia Joons: vocal in Swedish & Estonia-Swedish dialects & violin
Meelika Hainsoo: vocal & reading in Estonian & violin
Mall Ney: reed organ
Robert Jürjendal: guitar
