Interview for INNER Magazine

“When he’s playing guitar it doesn’t sound as if he were. A true guitar wizard with a big heart.”

Robert was interviewed by Kari Nevalainen for INNER Magazine in January.

“In 2016, the guitarist Robert Jürjendal was chosen as the Musician of the Year in Estonia. That alone tells about Robert’s exceptionally versatile approach to music making and of his highest professional attitude. Apart from the solo guitar and guitar ensembles he’s written music eg. for strings, harpsichord, brass and choir as well as for films, theatre productions and art exhibitions.

Robert’s career begun in the early 80s. Since then he’s been involved in an impressive number of projects, most of them quite well documented in the biography and the website. In this interview we do better by focusing on Robert’s art of guitaring, his relationship with technology, and with the rich music life of Estonia. And Inner would not be Inner if it didn’t try to deal with the issue of combining art and music.”

“Another World” with Colin Edwin

Robert will be releasing an album in collaboration with Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree, Ex-Wise Heads, O.R.k.) entitled “Another World”.

Here’s how Colin describes the appeal of Robert’s music and the potential for collaboration:

“It is said that opposites attract but I also think it’s true that like attracts like, I am naturally drawn to the “less is more” minimal approach and it was a straightforward thing to link up with Robert as I could easily detect the expansiveness in his musical approach, and for myself, I’ve always felt that creating a sense of space in music is one of my primary objectives as a bass player, the lacuna being just as important, if not more so, than the occupied frequencies.”
